Whereas women scientists saying they are discriminated against is not, in and of itself, proof that women scientists are discriminated against. Now, for women scientists who live this discrimination everyday, these numbers matter because their profession and their society demand the numbers in order to deem the reality of this discrimination a Truth. I just hate that it has to be that way. It should be enough that when a lot of women scientists say they face bias in their work, we believe them. That should be good enough evidence. But it’s not because it falls outside the range of what we consider “empirical evidence.” Funny, that.”

I’m just gonna copy/paste what I posted on Facebook
So today the dean of students at my school called me into his office regarding an email I had sent one of my teachers confronting her about not calling me ‘they’ after explicitly explaining everything to her… twice. I tried my best to be respectful but firm in said email. The dean sat me down and said flat out to me ‘your teachers calling you they is not going to happen.’ He went on to say that them misgendering me was not discrimination and pulled the whole ‘they is exclusively plural’ bullshit. He told me I have until Friday (as in, the day after tomorrow) to decide what my teachers call me (I’m not out to all of them yet) and to decide whether to go by ‘he’ or ‘she’. If I don’t make a choice, all my teachers will address me as my birth name/she. All my teachers and my parents are on his side with this; I have no one save for my amazing friends, but in this case who is he more likely to listen to? I spent the rest of 2nd period crying in the bathroom, and I skipped 3rd period on a blind impulse. Getting another adult involved is not likely to turn out well, and unfortunately giving him the finger and pissing on his desk isn’t an option. I really need some advice, and I only have until Friday to figure out what to do.
Basically, none of my school administration accepts the fact that I use ‘they’ pronouns, nor accepts the fact that it’s discrimination.
So what I need for you guys to do is blow. this. shit. up. I only have a day and a half if I’m lucky. Send me legal resources, anything that I could bring to help change their minds.
'X' now a gender option in Australian passports
google.comBy ROD McGUIRK, Associated Press – 14 hours ago
CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Australian passports will now have three gender options — male, female and indeterminate — under new guidelines to remove discrimination against transgender people, the government said Thursday.
Transgender people and those of ambiguous sex will now be able to list their gender on passports with an ‘X’ if their choice is supported by a doctor’s statement.
Previously, gender was a choice of only male or female, and people were not allowed to change their gender on their passport without having had a sex-change operation.
Senator Louise Pratt, whose partner was born female and is now identified as a man, said the reform was a major improvement for travelers who face questioning and detention at airports because their appearance does not match their gender status.
“‘X’ is really quite important because there are people who are indeed genetically ambiguous and were probably arbitrarily assigned as one sex or the other at birth,” Pratt said. “It’s a really important recognition of people’s human rights that if they choose to have their sex as ‘indeterminate,’ that they can.”
Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd said the new guidelines removed discrimination on the grounds of gender identity and sexual orientation.
“This amendment makes life easier and significantly reduces the administrative burden for sex and gender diverse people who want a passport that reflects their gender and physical appearance,” Rudd said in a statement.
Attorney-General Robert McClelland said while the change would affect few Australians, it was important because it would allow them to travel free of discrimination.

15-minute writing exercise closes the gender gap in university-level physics
blogs.discovermagazine.comThis simple writing exercise may not seem like anything ground-breaking, but its effects speak for themselves. In a university physics class, Akira Miyake from the University of Colorado used it to close the gap between male and female performance. In the university’s physics course, men typically do better than women but Miyake’s study shows that this has nothing to do with innate ability. With nothing but his fifteen-minute exercise, performed twice at the beginning of the year, he virtually abolished the gender divide and allowed the female physicists to challenge their male peers
Florida man accused of fraud after taking his wife's name after marriage
ca.news.yahoo.comMore gender discrimination ladies and gentlemen. Apparently men can’t take their wives last names since ‘only women do that’. If a man tries, he’s up on fraud charges. WTF?
Iowa justices side with sexism | SocialistWorker.org

IF MY pants are bulging, it means your clothes are too revealing, said the dentist to his dental assistant.
Yet according to the Iowa Supreme Court, it wasn’t Fort Dodge dentist James Knight who was out of line. In fact, the all-male justices voted 7-0 to uphold the legality of his decision to fire Melissa Nelson, his employee of 10 years, because he found her an “irresistible attraction.”
The court ruled against Nelson’s gender discrimination suit, which asserted that her boss wouldn’t have fired a male employee on the same grounds. Yet Knight’s attorney called the case a victory for family values.
In fact, both Nelson and Knight are married and have children. Thirty-two-year-old Nelson stated that she was “stunned” to be fired because she had always viewed her 53-year-old employer as a father figure.
But Knight viewed things differently. He warned Nelson’s husband that he was becoming too “attached” to her and “feared” he would soon start an affair with her—a surprising concern given Nelson says she was uninterested. Apparently, Knight’s “family values” don’t include valuing what women think about him.
285 Indian girls shed 'unwanted' names

“[Criminal abortion statutes] make women criminals for a medical procedure only women need, or make others criminals for performing a procedure on women that only women need, when much of the need for this procedure as well as barriers to access to it have been created by the social conditions of sex inequality. Forced motherhood is sex inequality.”

Looks isn’t important. Once you get into my pages, what I look like won’t matter, rather, the range of your appreciation will be measured and the strength of your respect to people like me, mostly discriminated by the society. Since I made this account hours ago, anon messages poured into my ask box..

Well, this is an experiment. This whole ‘mysterious’ thing is set by me to anonymously express my opinions, feelings and how I look on things and people around me and though not a ‘BIG’ deal, I will still count on your appreciations.
Why not show up my face?
-Well, I only have one question for you.. WHY U ANON, FREAK?
Another ‘Mysterious Gender Freak Appears’?
-Oh. Speaking of another gender discriminating coward!
I hope God will give you lessons that you deserve so you can learn to respect others. Before doing stuff like this, be brave enough to show up first the representation of your ‘discriminating personality’ , by the way I mean, your face. God bless you in spite of your perversions regarding this matter. ﭢ
If I ever have kids...
I’m going to make sure that I treat each and everyone of them equally.
My son won’t get special privileges or extra freedom just because he’s a male. No. My children will come home at the same time and will be under the same amount of rules and authority, regardless of their gender.
My daughter won’t be sheltered and pampered just because she’s a female. No. I’m going to push and support them with equally, regardless of their gender.
Cool! Tumblr’s created a brand new way to make a joke about everything male!
First, we have a young man say something like this “Ladies, you are all beautiful, don’t ever change.” And he genuinely means it, okay.
Then cue angry SJW who he has somehow offended, typing in loud, angry caps “OH WOW! LOOK AT YOU! YOU’VE JUST ENDED SEXISM, YOU AWESOME LITTLE FEMINIST, YOU!”
Let me get this straight… Even when guys are going out of their way to be nice and to say nice things, it still gives you cause to hate them?
That makes sense. Cool.
Seems to me that ya’ll are going out of your way to discriminate against men in general. Just my opinion though, there might be some sort of reasoning behind it that I seem to be missing. Iunno.
