The twins had a really exciting childhood! They were always “having adventures,” climbing trees, and sneaking around. Sometimes they watched the knights train, and Eirika always worried that their friends would get hurt. They shared a room for a relatively long time, I’d say until their preteens. Eirika was a bit more timid as a child than she is in-game.
The twins never needed to learn how to cook, though Eirika has a knack for salads. When they would go hunting with Lyon (re: her A Support with Saleh), she would collect edible plants and fruit. Forde taught Ephraim how to cook when they had their campaign in Grado, but he never got the hang of it.
