Museum District Mondays- F*ck Your Noguchi Coffee Table
Pardon my language, but Fuck Your Noguchi Coffee Table (FYNCT) is one awesome tumblr page and the inspiration for this series of posts. The blog posts a photo a day of homes with mid-century modern design concepts. Readers can submit their own photos and there are various themes throughout the week such as “Terrarium Tuesday,” “Frame Cluster Friday,” and “Super Combo Sunday.” I’m introducing “Museum District Monday”, on which day I’ll showcase one photo from my awesome Museum District house in Richmond, VA. Who knows, maybe FYNCT will notice me and post one of my photos on their site?! Either way, check out their tumblr page- www.fuckyournoguchicoffeetable.tumblr.com
My roommate and I can spend all afternoon looking at furniture and design. We’ve coined the term “furniture porn” for our design catalogs and magazines. Recently the NYTimes wrote an article called How to Tell if You’re Over-Propped * which mentioned FYNCT but was unable to print the sites name. The article discusses that before the phenomena of social media the only houses that most people saw were that of their family and close friends. There was no way to know how rich people decorated their houses, but now with the accessibility of websites like Apartment Therapy and Pinterest we’ve all become amateur stylists. The NYTimes article claims that the bar cart typifies the self-consciously designed home- it suggests that you entertain, while more often than not it collects dust. Not only did we recently purchase a bar cart, it doubles as a vintage globe! We are proud to be the epitome of amateur stylists!
