Kyon/Itsuki Part III: A Twist in Time
February was just beginning to open, although there was no observable transition between the two months. It was still frigidly cold, with no true signs of spring. The knowledge that there was still another month of winter left was depressing, to say the least.
Even so, Itsuki Koizumi was happier than he had been in a while. The universe had been particularly kind and merciful to him as of late, and he couldn’t have been more thankful. He had been planning this specific date with Kyon for a while now, and he had been fretting over it ever since it was mentioned. His boyfriend was to show up at his apartment any moment now, and they were to watch movies, eat dinner, as well as have a sleepover.
Itsuki didn’t exactly know if he was expected to cook dinner or not. He could’ve ordered take out, but that would’ve been a cop-out. He didn’t know what to make, either (nor how to make it), so he had decided on buying a multitude of different food and stuffing it wherever it could fit: the fridge, the cupboards, the pantry. At the very least, Kyon wouldn’t ridicule him for not having food in the house.
He had straightened up his house considerably, including cleaning his room. It was presentable enough for Kyon, now, although he doubted that they’d sleep together again. The entire apartment was neat and reeked of air freshener. His cat lounged in the middle couch cushion, appearing rather annoyed by the fruity scent in the air.
It was nearing sundown, at the growing worry that Itsuki was supposed to have something cooking began to become even more prevalent. He’d make rice, he guessed — even he couldn’t screw that up. He located one of the bags of white rice he had bought and read the directions on the back. It would be fine, he told himself — nothing bad would happen, nothing at all….
