Oz the Great and Powerful was PHENOMENAL
I mean, what a prequel! What a way to bring almost 100 years full circle! It was beautiful and touching and colorful - both in storytelling and literally. Oz was so engaging and alsdjkghelrglerjgearfbdtf, and Glinda was like a perfect character and a total BAMF… And on that note, holy cow, Michelle Williams! She was brilliant! Her acting was perfect! It’s like, hey you know that thing people have been doing, where they make movies that don’t have Michelle Williams in them? Yeah, they should stop doing that. I just love it!
Now, obviously, nothing can live up to The Wizard of Oz in terms of groundbreaking cinematic status, and Oz doesn’t approach discussion of being half as culturally iconic as its predecessor. But, in terms of the story itself - the richness of the journey, the storytelling structure, the appreciation for Baum’s heartwarming intent - it can absolutely be called a prequel.
