Reading a new series is one of the most enjoyable comic book experiences. If a person can pick up a book without knowing a thing but the cover and title, then literally any story can await them inside. That level of excitement is unique to new stories. There are no expectations, no assumptions about where things are headed. Not all new series are met with the same satisfaction, but it is hard to turn one down, nonetheless.
The year of Image may have been 2012, but their new titles continue to hit the market and many of them continue to impress. Five Weapons was generating a decent amount of buzz, and while I was able to avoid any sense of story, there was to be no avoiding the title. Naturally, the book has something to do with five weapons. Actually, it has to do with five categories of weapons, each one a “specialization” within a school for future assassins. We walk through the first day of school through the narration and experiences of the book’s protagonist. He comes from a well-known family and is getting a show.
