I watched Conan for the first time last night
It wasn’t that impressive… Mediocre jokes and random beard-rubbing followed by actors that no one really cares about. Although I was pumped to hear Panic! At the Disco as the musical guest, but even that wasn’t that good. It sounded like Brennan was a third lower live than on the album for Mona Lisa, but the instrumentals weren’t any lower to go with him. I don’t know if he was nervous or what, but it sounded really awkward. Which is strange, because normally they’re really good live.
It was a major disapointment. It made me never want to go to a concert of theirs.
So I watched the X Files pilot episode for the first time ever...
When the show aired in the 90s, my mom watched it religiously (she wasn’t a huge fan like some philes, but she would always make sure to watch it). So I sometimes would watch random episodes with her. But because I was a kid, I didn’t really understand much except the following:
1) Mulder’s sister was abducted by aliens
2) Mulder and Scully were the definition of UST and needed to get together like NOW.
3) The Cigarette Smoking Man was the crux of something bigger.
Now as an adult…
HOLY CRAP, THE PILOT EPISODE WAS SO GOOD. For ONCE, a TV show starts off stupendously strong… I mean, holy fuck, the corpses were basically mummified grey aliens!

And even Scully had a very vulnerable moment when she honestly believed she was targeted by aliens. THAT’S FUCKING HUGE.

At first I was only gonna watch The Best Episodes of X-Files (to save myself a whole lotta time cuz dude, NINE seasons…)
But now I’m really tempted to just watch them all, one-by-one. It would help me understand the mythology of the show (though I am given to understand that even hardcore fans of X Files have difficulty doing that.)
I have a feeling that this X Files phase is going to mirror my phase of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Only on a more epic, 9-seasons level.
NGE is a lot shorter but has very similar themes involving government conspiracies, supernatural forces, extraterrestials, and the search for the truth - or in NGE’s case, the meaning of life.
Also. Clones. Genetic testing. HOLY FUCKING CRAP, IT IS THE X FILES OF JAPAN.

With better female characters and a whole lot less nudity and sexual objectification of women.

And GODDAMN, GILLIAN ANDERSON IS A MEGA FOX AT ANY AGE. She could be wearing an oversized potato sack, and I’d still be drooling over her.
