Misogyny:

hatred, dislike, or mistrust of women.

Personally, I’m always hesitant about using this word. And I’m troubled by how often it’s thrown around, here on tumblr and elsewhere in general. Misusing a word devalues it’s meaning and even misconstrues it until it’s been contorted into some other meaning.

I’m not sure what the point of this post is other than to say I’m uncomfortable with this word. But also now I’m uncomfortable with how it’s liberally being used to describe movies, i.e The Social Network. So when people are saying the movie is “misogynistic”, they’re saying the movie hates women when really what they may mean to say is that the movie has unsubstantial and flat women characters.
