It’s time to talk about luck in animal crossing!
While it seems like it would be completely random, luck is actually based on a number of factors. The best way to increase your overall luckiness in the game is by utilizing feng shui!
What is feng shui, you ask?
It’s basically the concept that placing certain objects in a room will affect the energy of the room and, overall, the energy of your life. In real life, this concept is practiced in the east primarily, and people pay big money to have their room organized according to feng shui practices here in the states. Some examples are that a red door to your household will increase your household’s luck, gingko leaves are sure to bring wealth to a household, etc.
In animal crossing, furniture all has one or two colors assigned to it in its code. By placing the correct colors in the correct parts of your room, you increase your luck for things like finding money or items.
In general, the rules are:
- Yellow in the west part of your room to increase wealth
- Red in the east of your room to increase the luck of finding things
- Green in the south to increase your overall luck.

Yellow objects are things like the bucket, the golden furniture set and the lucky cat.
Red are objects like the executive toy, the gorgeous furniture set and the jackhammer.
Green objects are things like plants, the dekkoid and the froggy chair.
If you place objects in your room according to this and get your room rated by Lyle, he’ll comment on the correct placement of objects. You’ll score big time if you can place the objects correctly AND they match!
