Emeralds

“Media Murder is the weirdest Emeralds disc. Radios and vocals maybe?? I don’t listen to it, it’s too weird.” —John Elliott, in Married Life Quarterly, 2008

Suffice it to say that if Elliott, who’s released some pretty zonked material over the years, thinks that this is “too weird,” you can rest assured that it is, indeed, fucked up. I ended up owning this through an Emeralds lot on eBay and the owner didn’t even know what it was, which makes sense as there is practically no information about this release online. Allegedly released in an edition of 13, it finds Emeralds in their first year of existence after abandoning the Fancelions name. Heavy manipulation of radios, televisions (presumably), and layered vocals fully immerse you in a harsh, eerie atmosphere that is only hinted at on Allegory for Allergies or Ursa Major (and is virtually absent from their current work). 

While I can’t say I really reach for this often, the fact that no one seems to have it seemed like a good reason to make it available. What’s more, this seems to document a phase of Emeralds’ evolution that is rarely discussed. Enjoy.
