Condo In Neverland

Everybody remembers the story of Peter Pan (the Disney one at least), but something about it struck me a little differently about a year ago when i wrote this song. As you get older you have a lot of folks tell you not to grow up, and most of the time they are the ones that bought into the idea that you HAVE to at some point. Growing up means different things to different cultures, but the subtext to the process of growing up is essentially to become responsible; making bills on time, maintaining healthy relationships, being a trustworthy person that people can depend on, etc. Condo in Neverland stems from this idea that I want to be a  responsible person, but still see the world through irresponsible eyes. I don’t want to quantify and categorize everything in my life so it becomes boring and completely understandable. I still want to hear new sounds, enjoy new bands without tearing apart their song and lyric structure…I want to watch movies without dissecting the story structure…I still want to battle the Captain Hooks in my life instead of becoming a part of their crew just for health insurance and job security. We sit around and become bitter, jaded and judgmental about the people, art, and music around us, somehow finding our self-worth and identity in our ability to criticize. This song is a reminder to myself to choose to create and not criticize, to become responsible without becoming unimaginative.
