oh my god stop. There is nothing Mitt Romney can do in regards to abortion, birth control, gay rights, etc. NOTHING. That is up to the states and it's people. Look in your own Constitution guys! SOO many people have tried to overturn Roe v. Wade (if you don't know what that is, then stfu)... but it's never happened. Just because Romney embraces his religious views doesn't make him a bad person. I DOUBT he has made any of the claims you said he has. If you can find me some cold hard evidence then I will be glad to admit I'm wrong. That is all.

AP News: Gov. Brown endorses popular vote bill for Calif.

m.apnews.com

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Gov. Jerry Brown has signed a bill that would award all of California’s 55 Electoral College votes to the winner of the national popular vote in presidential elections.

The movement by a group called National Popular Vote aims to prevent a repeat of 2000, when Democrat Al Gore won the popular vote but Republican George W. Bush won the electoral vote. The proposed change would ensure the winner of the national popular vote becomes president.

With Brown’s signature Monday, California became the eighth state to sign on, giving the effort 132 of the 270 electoral votes it needs to take effect.

California and most other states currently have winner-take-all systems that give all the electoral votes to the candidate who wins the most votes in that state.

FP Debate Key Points

We hate China, because why shouldn’t we hate one of our largest trading partners and the world’s second largest economy. I mean it’s a great straw man!

Romney looks like he would fumble the Arab Spring in terms of nurturing civil society and nascent democracy. The more cautious Obama might be the safer bet here, but he has his misses, like the failed Green Revolution and the Syrian Civil War.

Romney also aims to arm Syrian opposition. This is an honest (and rare) difference between the candidates.

Romney’s mention of Mali was the first time I’ve heard the West African country’s troubles mentioned on national TV.

Obama’s policy in Afghanistan has failed. Obama and Romney are both keen to ignore that fact, and massage the issue until the troops come home in 2014. No one wants to resell America on actually finishing the job in Afghanistan.

Wait, so why on CNN is it Obama: 3 and Romney:8 but on FOX it's Obama: 3 Romney: 19?

You’ve been seent FOX news.

A Land of Equal Opportuity

Conservatives have always argued for a kind of “rugged individualism” for the people. They believe that in order to get anywhere in life, you must work hard, put in all the effort you can, be intelligent, and then if you do all this, there is no way you cannot succeed. That all it takes is a little elbow grease and determination and all your goals will line up before you. Who can really argue with this? This is why Conservatives don’t believe in free education or free healthcare. They believe that both these things are earned, not universal rights. I just simply do not understand their argument beyond what I think is their veiled platform: “I just don’t want to help anyone but myself.”

Eventually, we have to look at our world, our system, our country and realize that not everything is equal and not everything is fair. Not everyone has the same opportunities and success is not just about working hard, but rather has a great deal to do with luck and our present situation. That is why I believe in not only working hard, but working hard in an environment that promotes an equal opportunity to attain your goals. Not everyone’s situation is the same, but I think the entire purpose of government is to give everyone the opportunity to fix their situation and level the economic playing field.
