How Romney's father arrived in the US from Mexico
Thousands of American Mormons were welcomed in El Paso, Texas as they fled Mexico by train in 1912.
The train arrived to El Paso, Texas at midnight on a hot summer’s night. Hundreds of refugees — women and children — had come, fleeing the threat of violence during the Mexican Revolution. The year was 1912 and one of the passengers was George Romney, late governor of Michigan and father of future presidential candidate Mitt Romney. George was 5 years old.
