Sign upTop 10 Reasons to Eat Breakfast Every Day

With regards to healthy eating, one of the best things you can do is to eat breakfast every day. It is the most important meal of the day as it breaks the overnight fast. It has an effect on overall energy levels, appetite control and total calories consumed through the day. Recent studies have shown that people who eat breakfast are far better at maintaining their weight than those that don’t.
Here are the top 10 reasons why eating a healthy breakfast is important:
- Hunger - eating breakfast will help you avoid a craving for high calorie, high sugar snacks mid morning.
- Stress - breakfast foods rich in wholegrain starchy carbohydrates like oats and granary bread, lift serotonin levels, the ‘feel good’ hormone. They are also a great source of the B vitamins that are essential for energy.
- Mood - after an overnight fast, a breakfast rich in healthy carbohydrates and nutrients will give you a lift.
- Hydration - in the morning, have a drink of nutrient packed freshly squeezed fruit juice or vegetable juice or a herbal tea to boost your hydration levels. Avoid too much caffeine as this may make you feel twitchy and irritable through the morning.
- Immunity - nutrients that help maintain a healthy immune system and help protect us and help us recover from illness include the A, C and B vitamins, as well as minerals such as zinc. Adding citrus fruit or berries to your breakfast is a great way to give the immune system a lift, so try sprinkling them on cereal or yoghurt, or even have them as a smoothie. You can also help to boost your immunity by adding a tablespoon of nuts and seeds to your breakfast, or perhaps try eggs or oily fish for a change!
- Concentration and alertness - after an overnight fast, the brain needs a carbohydrate injection. This alleviates tiredness and fuels the brain helping you concentrate and stay focused at work. Research has shown a much lower incidence of work-based accidents for people who have had breakfast!
- Memory - breakfast refuels the brain cells that depend on glucose, by elevating blood sugar levels. This will help us process and manage complex and challenging information, including the formation and retrieval of memories.
- Weight - a nutritious breakfast that is also low in fat has been shown to help manage hunger and energy levels through the morning, helping us make more sensible choices at snack and meal time, and showing an overall lower total number of calories are consumed through the day. This helps manage body fat levels.
- Metabolism - having breakfast gives the metabolism some encouragement to get going in the morning.
- Energy - choosing breakfasts based on wholegrain starchy carbohydrates will release energy slowly through the morning and help maintain energy levels through the morning.
So, if you haven’t been eating breakfast every day, add it to your healthy eating list of things to do and start now!
- Every single day, Me: Ima eat 1200 calories and be healthy and exercise and such! :D
- 100 calories later, Me: Never.Eating.Again.What.A.Bad.Idea ):
- This is ridiculous. For 1 week I will stick with it, eating healthily and exercising. Yes. I can do this. I mean, obviously ED thoughts are my own. I can overcome them!
- Me now: I still don't wanna eat...
OMG there is so much healthy food in my house right now :3
Stuff I’ve never had and I was like hey, why not.
I have grapefruit and wholewheat bread and wholewheat pittas and cottage cheese and turkey breast and protein bars and protein powder and then all the obvious stuff like apples and pears and bananas and all kinds of nuts and yoghurt and peanut butter and OMG THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME.
Weight
My goal weight is 10st 2lb. My actual weight is 11st 3lb (this morning’s measurement).
I’ve not set a date for when it should be achieved, I’m just focusing on eating healthily each day. I had KFC yesterday though >.< but today I’m going to get back on track.
I am absolutely rubbish at exercise but I think I will do some real exercise eventually. For the meantime I am just walking a bit more. I don’t want to lose too much weight too fast and then struggle to maintain it.
Eats A Treat – Being fussy and learning to eat new things
Ever since I can remember, I’ve been a notoriously fussy eater. As a teenager, cakes, biscuits, chips and Super Noodles all made the grade but fruit, vegetables and salad were lacking from my plate. My favourite meal was chicken noodles with cheese and crunched up crisps, lumped inside peanut butter on toast. Why I wasn’t […]

Sticking to my diet!
Surprisingly, I have now stuck to a rigid healthy eating plan for almost a week. I started on Monday, and today is Saturday. With the exception of Thursday night (when I went out for dinner) I have eaten nothing but balanced, calorie and fat controlled small portions of food.
As someone who regularly fails to stick to diets of any kind, this is a bit of a breakthrough for me. In fact, the only time I have ever lasted longer was in January when I managed from New Year’s Day to the 19th of the month. There are some people out there who say, ‘I’m going to cut out chocolate.’ and just do it, like that. I am just not one of them. I say, ‘I’m going to cut out chocolate,’ then I’m half way through a Dairy Milk when I realise that it’s something I shouldn’t be eating. Then I figure, well, I’ve broken it now, might as well eat a pack of chocolate buttons too. It’s a bad mentality.
Anyway. So, why have I managed to last the best part of a week this time? I don’t know. I wish I did, because then I could bottle and sell my new found will-power and make a fortune, not to mention administer a dose back to myself everytime I felt weak and tempted to snack.
Maybe it has just got to the time when I have thought to myself that I really can’t put off losing weight any longer. I’m just not happy with how I look and how clothes fit on me. It’s time for change.
As I mentioned, I did go out for dinner on Thursday. We went to Zizzi’s in Leamington Spa, and I ordered a starter of Gnocchi Gorgonzola (which I have every single time because it is AMAZING), then a pizza for my main course that was advertised as being half-pizza, half-calzone. I have to be honest, I was disappointed with the main course. The designer really needs to brush up on his understanding of fractions as it was more like ten elevenths-pizza and one tiny pocket of calzone stuck on the end. The onions were chunky and too overpowering, and there was very little sauce so the whole thing was pretty dry. The calzone pocket had so much pesto in it that I couldn’t eat it all and generally, the combination of flavours just didn’t seem to work and it didn’t taste very nice. I was so upset, because I never order pizza out on account of the fact that I work in a pizzeria and can therefore get pizza for free any time I want. The menu description made it sound so appealing though. Guess it’s my fault for going with something I knew I shouldn’t have ordered. In the end I only ate half though, which does mean I shaved about 600 calories off the total of the pizza… Not bad.
The gnocchi would have been absolutely loaded in calories as the cheese sauce was delicious and creamy and scrummy, and gnocchi itself is pretty high in calories as it’s so dense. However, I don’t go out for dinner that often, so I treated myself. I also didn’t have pudding. This was mainly because everyone else decided not to and I hate eating food on my own.
Having only snacked on fruit and veg throughout the day, even with my estimated 700 calories for the gnocchi and 700 for the half-pizza, I still come in way under the 2000 recommended daily intake for a woman, so I feel it is not a massive dent in my efforts. Plus, I have been eating under 1,500 for the rest of the week each day.
Aaaaand….. It has paid off! I am officially down to 11st 13lb, as of this morning! I am in the eleven bracket!! It’s a good feeling, and I can’t wait to update the My Progress page. It does put me behind slightly on The Plan, as I was meant to be at this point a while ago, but never mind.
Better late than never.
These people have no idea about anything methinks.

How to get in the right frame of mind to achieve weight loss and eat healthily

Achieving success with weight-loss and healthy eating takes more than just following nutritional information; it also takes getting in the right state of mind.
As all of our actions are governed by our thoughts and if it is true that thoughts create reality, then it is important to create an environment that will support your success. Here are a few things you can do to create a strong, positive foundation that will help you achieve your health and weight-loss goals.
Clear Your Mind
Clear your mind of all media information and hype. This means not believing everything you hear from health and nutrition experts on TV and radio and in magazines and books. Forget all the other diets that you’ve tried. If old habits keep bringing you to the same place - overweight, unhealthy, or unhappy - then you need to change your approach.
Believe in What You Are Doing
To be successful, you need to believe in yourself. You can change your habits. You can feel great. You can change your health and your weight. When you begin to make a lifestyle change, you will encounter people who will try to sabotage your new healthy habits. People will say, “Go on, one won’t kill you” or “Eating like that is no fun.” Truly believe in your new way of life and what you are doing for yourself, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Set Goals and Positive Affirmations
Before you start making the food and lifestyle changes I’m recommending, choose three or more of your goals and turn them into positive statements. These will then motivate you to stick to your new eating habits.
Examples could be:
- I can achieve a healthy lifestyle.
- Eating fresh, wholesome food makes me look and feel great.
- I have time in my day to take care of myself by going for a 30 minute walk.
As with your goals, it is best to write these positive statements down and keep them somewhere visible, e.g. as a bookmark, stuck to the bathroom mirror, on the fridge. Ideally review your goals and repeat your statements at the start and end of each day.
Eliminate Negative Thinking
You need to free yourself from any negative thinking. If you ever think, “What’s the use? I’ll only gain it back anyway,” then stop that thought. From this point on, replace each negative thought with a positive one. The moment you find yourself thinking, “I know I’m going to fail,” try instead, “I know I can successfully change my eating habits and my life.” If you repeat this statement often enough, you will begin to feel more positive and confident about your efforts to adopt a new healthy lifestyle.
Commit Yourself to Doing the Work
Think about your biggest accomplishment to date. What did it take for you to achieve that goal: months of overtime to achieve a promotion at work? countless hours helping your children learn a new skill? years of practice to become successful at a sport or hobby? Accomplishing anything requires a great deal of hard work, commitment, and dedication. Think about all those people winning medals at the Olympics - they wouldn’t have won without their hard work, commitment and dedication. Achieving your health and lifestyle goals will also require work. Remember, I’m advocating begin a healthy eater for life rather than adopting a quick-fix diet that only works in the short-term. Work hard at it and you will see results.
Don’t underestimate the power of setting goals and making positive affirmations to help your achieve what you want to achieve. Work hard, stick with it and you’ll get there!
How to Break Bad Eating Habits
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93kwhDtH9iU&feature=g-vrec
1) Be CONCIOUS of when you are emotional eating.
2) Eat in a sacred, quiet, or peaceful/happy place.
3) NEVER eat when you are upset, sad, unsettled, or confused.
4) Prepare your food with love.
5) Plan your meals ahead of time.
6) Always make sure that you have enough fruits and vegetables in your house.
7) Don’t Eat Crap.
I went to the gym yesterday.
It was really amazing. I’m finally pushing myself even more than I did before and I know the results will be golden. I’ve already lost three pounds from the food I’ve cooked last weekend and it’s just making me so happy because I’m getting closer and closer to my goal. After the workout, my trainer told me he was proud of me and that if I keep working this hard, I’ll finally get there once and for all and I am just alll smiles. I’m 189 right now. Pretty sure I haven’t been this small since elementary school, so this is kind of a big deal for me. But my short-term goal as of right now before my birthday is 180 or 170. It depends on which I make it to first before my birthday, but I am really hoping on 170.
You guys don’t understand how fucking amazing this feels. I’ve been fat my entire life and during that time I was the ONLY fat one in my family. I got picked on by not only my schoolmates, but my family as well and it just feels good to know that I am doing something for me. And the funny thing about this? All of the ladies that would make fun of me for being fat, are all fat now. And while part of me wants to give them a taste of their on medicine, I won’t, because I know how it feels. But it feels great to know that in my family, I am really the only one working towards this goal.
If you’re out there trying to lose some pounds and become a more healthier you, please, do not quit, because in the end you’ll be so happy that you’ve accomplished something and did something for you.

Going out for dinner with friends tomorrow.
I’m not sure where we’ll pick but somebody suggested Gourmet Burger Kitchen…guess I’ll be ordering a salad then. Their nutritional information isn’t up on the website but I saw some estimates on the internet and they guessed around 800 calories for a burger. Add in fries and a milkshake, along with popcorn at the movie beforehand, and that’s…..a hell of a lot. So I’m going to take an apple, some nuts and a big bottle of water to the movie and hopefully I’ll be strong enough to resist whatever calls out my name from the bottom of a pan full of oil. Wish me luck :)
Okay, so the plan is:
Food:
Lunch:
2 Fish Fingers
6 Quorn Dippers
2 tbsp Tomato Ketchup
= 530(ish) calories
Exercise:
While watching Burlesque (And adoring their bodies):
Stretch
Jog for 10 minutes
20 Weights (10 on each arm)
Jog for 10 minutes
20 Tummy toners
Jog for 10 minutes
Weights
Jog for 10 minutes
30 Tummy Toners
Stretch
Sit on exercise ball
Not sure whats for dinner, probably a salad of some sort. As I’ve had no vegetables at all today.
I’m going to buy an iPhone and a treadmill asap, once I have the money.
1) Substitute foods for healthier low fat options.
I’m not saying replace everything you eat with some disgusting low fat shake. That’s just going to stress you out and encourage you to fall of the wagon. If you’re going to lose weight, at least try to enjoy it while you’re at it and benefit.
For instance, fruit is a good substitute for crisps (chips if you’re american) or a yoghurt for lunch. It’s about half the calories and just as filling as well.
