people need to realize that having an unhealthy relationship with food is actually beyond painful

“No, it [media images] didn’t cause their eating disorder, but it created the mechanism by which they thought they could solve the problems they had in their lives, the problem of being unhappy, the problem of not feeling anyone listened to them or paid attention to them…so it gave them the solution.”

—Jean Kilbourne, on that never-ending “does the media perpetuate EDs” topic.

“pick yourself up kiss your own scars. do not beg for attention, give it to yourself. spend a night alone, a romantic dinner for one. trash your razors burn his clothes. feed your soul with books and poems and love, nothing less than perfection. realize you are worth it.”

Repeat after me: My value is not measured by the calories I consume.

If your fat activism erases people with eating disorders, you're doing it wrong.

Fat people can have eating disorders, and reducing their mental illness to a “crutch” is damaging, harmful, and ableist.

Don’t.

Does anyone else secretly think things won’t get better?  That you will always feel this way?
