Why Dutch shouldn't be translated to English.
A few Dutch sayings in English;
- It rains steel pipes.
- I fell with the door in the house.
- There is nothing on the hand.
- I shall let them smell a poopy.
- I’m keeping you in the holes.
- I don’t trust you for a meter.
- It shall me a sausage be.
- It’s dick black outside.
- Unfortunately peanutbutter.
- To participate for bacon and beans.
- There is not a ball on the tv.
- It walks in the soup.
- Falling through the basket.
- This time, I can see it through the fingers.

Helaas, Pindakaas! (Oh Well, Peanut Butter!)
This is a saying the Dutch use when life is just life. Things happen and what can you do but go with the flow? It is a silly saying that I suppose is strange to any expat. But in the States we have strange sayings too.
We spent Valentines Day at our temporary apartment and exchanged gifts. My husband got me so many lovely dutch things while I scrambled to find something he would like here.

We also had a lovely dinner at a local restaurant with a small course of Miffy!

It was lovely, quiet, and perfect.
Though the snow made it a bit challenging for me to get anywhere. I have this irrational fear that I’m going to slip, fall and break a bone. Hearing stories from so many friends hurting themselves I suddenly became strangely paranoid. It isn’t so bad now, but it still resides there in the back of my mind! O____O
Obligatory cat photo!

There was a display made specifically for this one cat to sleep in. Obviously encouraged to sleep there during the day and attract onlookers. (Like me!)
One of my favorite photos I’ve taken recently. Star Wars dad takes his child home from school

Love the handmade woven bags book. Might pick that up if the cost is comparable to online sources.
In less exciting news…
It’s been frustrating dealing with little things like getting a cell phone, finding a doctor, finding jobs locally, and preparing to move into a more permanent apartment. That and how painfully slow things are. It is great that the Dutch are so concerned with doing things by the book and making sure your information/money is safe. Unfortunately it has gotten to the point where with so many cooks in the kitchen, for example, it has made this restaurant opening take 10 years! Seriously.
Helaas, pindakaas indeed! O3O
