“I don't want to be at the mercy of my emotions. I want to use them, to enjoy them, and to dominate them.”

—Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray

When I asked my Literature teacher if she considered Dracula and Dorian Gray to be Byronic Heroes, she said -

“Do you want them to rip your clothes off with their teeth?”

Pretty good definition of a Byronic Hero, really.

“I knew that I had come face to face with someone whose mere personality was so fascinating that, if I allowed it to do so, it would absorb my whole nature, my whole soul.”

—The picture of Dorian gray

“I find a strange pleasure in saying things to him that I know I will be sorry for having said.”

Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde
