ASPIRING DOCUMENTARY DIRECTORS BASED IN ONTARIO!

image

Shawna and I are making our first grass roots feature film this year and we are searching for someone to direct the feature length making of of our feature. We need to find someone by NOVEMBER 14TH. Taking applications and interviews now. This is a great opportunity for someone with a passion for documentaries looking for a great funded (and paid) project. Hoping to find a director with a small crew they are familiar with working with. We’ll be shooting over the next year. please contact Shawna Howson at shawnahowsonbusiness (at) gmail.com

Note: You must be Canadian for us to legally hire you for this project, and you must be Ontario based to feasibly be available on the frequent dates you’ll be needed for shooting. We appreciate your enthusiasm but please do not bother applying if you do not fit this criteria.

If you know anyone with experience in documentaries please consider passing this along to them! Thank you.

Note: What I mentioned in my previous post is why I’m not a big fan of most “animal rights/veg” documentaries which attempt to focus on personal benefit (usually unobtainable by the general public because it is advertised in such a way that assumes the viewer can spend 500 dollars a week on food). I do not recommend such documentaries to those interested in veganism as a movement (e.g. Forks Over Knives, Vegucated, Food Matters, Hungry For Change, or even Food Inc.) because while that view of health may be important to you, it has nothing to do with animal rights. Neither are they entirely neutral in their intent: mentally damaging weight loss culture wrapped up tight in “concern for your health” packaging is not good for you, and is supported and maintained by consumer politics.

A diet is nothing more than a product being marketed to you after you have been told there is something wrong with you that needs to be fixed. A wholly fair and equal movement (which is what veganism attempts to be) wants nothing to do with this sort of shame-for-profit tactic.

A few documentaries I would recommend for those actively interested in participating in a global movement (for animals, environmental concern, and human rights interests) are Making The Connection, Earthlings, and Peaceable KingdomThe first two are available online for free.
