Drake, Josh, their mom, and their dad were in a fatal car crash. Megan was the sole survivor. Fortunately, she was not in the car on account that she went to the premiere and was supposedto sleepover at a girlfriend’s house that night. She hears about the accident from Josh’s friend , Crazy Steve, who was working at the theater. Megan , not knowing how to react to the terrible news, is in a state of complete shock. When she comes to… she is in denial. But then, being the smart girl that she is… she realizes that Crazy Steve had no reason to ever lie her. Tears begin to form at her tear ducts and then she begins to cry: softly at first… but then she becomes hysterical. When she manages to calm down, she begins to tell Crazy Steve that she had no living relatives at all and asked him ‘what would become of me? Who would take care of me now?’ Crazy Steve, whom had grown very fond of Megan and saw her as a little sister, began to panic. He didn’t know how to respond to her. He didn’t know what would become of her. Child services came to mind but he thought of all the stories he had heard from kids who had gone through ‘the system’ and didn’t want that for Megan at all. Knowing that his father is in the army at that very moment, he begins to devise a plan to help Megan. He gives Megan two options: either she goes to Child Services or she could go away with him. Megan, whom had also grown very fond of Crazy Steve and saw him as an older brother, didn’t think twice before she chose option 2. Crazy Steve packed up his things from his apartment and took Megan and they drove into the night. Destination? His hometown. His father had a loft and he thought that he could ask permission to live there while he was in the army. The next day, he realized that people would be looking for Megan so he told her that she had to change her name. She told him that she had always liked the names Lily and Carly. He told her that Carly sounds better with his last name Shay. She decided to go with Carly, Carly Shay. Crazy had also grown tired of his name… he had always loved the name Spencer. He didn’t know why… but he did. And it was decided: they would be Carly Shay and Spencer Shay, brother and sister, in this new road ahead of them. Megan had to adjust to her new life but she never forgot about her family. She is always seen with a forced smile or forced laugh. Her new friends, especially Sam and Freddy, unaware of her previous life, always had thought that odd of her but they never asked.
