well i guess the thing is that people are completely forgetting what triggers are supposed to mean? like yeah of course there’s nothing wrong with marking your content but when EVERYTHING is TRIGGERS it just gets kind of ridiculous.
ah I was actually about to post an addendum to that post
I also don’t think it’s bad to have lines drawn where you decide not to warn for different things! And it’s ok for those lines to be different for different people
it’s up to everyone to figure out where their own lines are, and the people who follow them can then decide if they want to continue to follow them or not
but it is SUPER UNCOMFY to me that people ridicule others for posting trigger warnings, even if those triggers seem over the top and ridiculous, because even triggers commonly accepted as ~legit~ get laughed about and brushed off and the people who ask for them labeled oversensitive. idk, I understand that there are people who use the word trigger inappropriately when they have no idea what being triggered actually feels like, but I also have no idea what the fuck triggers different people and don’t feel it’s my place to judge what is a legitimate trigger and what isn’t, especially when even the common ones are still laughed unkindly about.
basically I think it’s fine if you personally decide not to use various trigger warnings, but I wish people wouldn’t be so dismissive of each other
okay so i made a post about hating the violin a few weeks ago and i didn’t realize that it impacted some people until tonight! so for clarification i don’t hate the instrument or the sound/music it produces. actually violin music is still one of my favourite sounds and it really soothes me in the right conditions. if you have ever thought about picking it up! i greatly encourage you, it’s a great instrument to learn and it really is very very versatile!
the reason why i felt so trapped and suffocated by this tiny little wooden instruments is completely irrelevant to the instrument itself and i hope it’s something you never have to deal with. a large part of why i don’t (can’t) and probably will never play again is because every time i play, or even get into position sometimes, i risk triggering myself pretty badly and it’s not somewhere i want to be.
so rest easy! the instrument isn’t the stressful part and if you pick it up i hope it brings you joy and happiness and relaxation!
Because it seems relelvant, here are the things that trigger me:
- Domestic abuse
- child abuse
- mentions of eating disorders
- mental institutions
- lobotomies and ECT
- consent issues
- “shut up kisses”
I will watch things that have my triggers in them, I just really prefer being forewarned.
I went to the tribeca film fest tonight and saw Byzantium!
ooh look at that legit red carpet and all those fancy film lights
review under the cut (spoilers maybe)
