What Is Specific Developmental Disorder Of Motor Function

freud-sigmund.com

An essential feature of the disorder is a serious violation of motor coordination, which can not be explained by general intellectual retardation or any congenital or acquired neurological disorder, dysplasia development. The diagnosis is made, if the violation significantly affects the ability to study or daily life. It is characterized by the presence of motor clumsiness with some disorders of cognitive visual-spatial tasks.

These disorders are caused by disturbances in cognitive processing of information, which largely is the result of a biological dysfunction. Characteristically, the normal acquisition of skills is disrupted in the early stages of development.

Lack of Hugs Can Change Children's Neurobiology

“MADISON, Wis., Nov. 22 - Children raised in the uncaring environment of some eastern European orphanages ended up with a long-lasting deficit in two hormones involved in forming social bonds, reported researchers here.

In other words, nurture — or the lack of it — can trump nature when it comes to the ability to form social bonds, according to Seth Pollack, Ph.D., and assistant professor of psychology and of psychiatry and pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin.

The deficits in oxytocin and arginine vasopressin persisted even after the children were removed from the orphanages and placed with loving and stable families in Wisconsin, Dr. Pollack and colleagues reported in the Nov. 21 online edition of theProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.”

World’s first primate chimeric offspring produced: Research demonstrates not all embryonic stem cells are equal

sciencedaily.com

Newly published research by scientists at Oregon Health & Science University provides significant new information about how early embryonic stem cells develop and take part in formation of the primate species. The research, which took place at OHSU’s Oregon National Primate Research Center, has also resulted in the first successful birth of chimeric monkeys — monkeys developed from stem cells taken from two separate embryos.

The research was conducted to gain a better understanding of the differences between natural stem cells residing in early embryos and their cultured counterparts called embryonic stem cells. This study also determined that stem cell functions and abilities are different between primates and rodents.

Here’s more information about the early primate stem cells that were studied: The first cell type was totipotent cells — cells from the early embryo that have the ability to divide and produce all of the differentiated cells in the placenta and the body of organism. These were compared with pluripotent cells — cells derived from the later stage embryo that have only the ability to become the body but not placenta.

Birth Order and Siblings Relationship Question

“I’ve read and observed that younger siblings tend to underperform compared to older siblings. I know sibling rivalry and competition is common, it plays a role in many of my choices to be honest. Recently I was reading about motivation and saw that a reward system or external motivation like winning a competition actually decreases performance, it is called overjustification. Do you think this plays a major role in the older-younger sibling discrepancy? Older siblings do what they want because they like it, and younger siblings do things to get recognition or to compete with their older sibling/others?”

How Does Media Violence Affect the Behaviors of Young Children?

“So I’m doing an essay for lifespan about the effect of televised violence and violence in the media on the behaviour of young children. I thought, why not, I’ll make a topic and see what you all think. So post your opinions. I haven’t done any research yet, it’s not due for a month, and I’ve already got some articles to read. I’ll post with what I find throughout the course of my essay writing, but I’d love to hear some opinions.

Personally, I am still on the fence. Children have become desensitised to violence because of the countless video games and how it’s so open in movies (much more so than nudity, but that’s another discussion and one not really related to psychology), but whether or not it leads children to be more violent, I don’t know. I’ve got two brothers who have both grown up watching way more violence than me and my sister ever did, and they are both quite rough and tumble, but that could just be because they are boys. Who knows.

What do you think?”
