An Avenger Worth Fighting For

STEVE: For a long time it seems I’ve been marching off to battle
THOR: In my thundering ways you all seem to move like cattle
BRUCE: Like the pounding beat
CLINT: Our aching feet aren’t easy to ignore
TONY: Hey, think of instead a girl worth fighting for!
STEVE: Huh?
TONY: That’s what I said! A girl worth fighting for
CLINT: I want her paler than the moon with hair as red as flames
STEVE: My girl will marvel at my strength, adore my battle scars.
THOR: I couldn’t care less what she’ll wear or what she looks like
THOR: It all depends on what she cooks like: Poptarts, Bacon, Coffee, Mmm…
TONY: Bet the local girls thought Banner was quite the charmer
BRUCE: And I’ll bet the ladies love the man in armor
STEVE: Can you guess what I have missed the most since I started off that war?
TONY: What do we want?
BOYS: A girl worth fighting for
CLINT: My girl will think I have no faults that I’m a major find
NATASHA: How ‘bout a girl who’s got a brain and… can mess with your mind?
BOYS: …Naw!
TONY: My genius ways and hot-rod days are sure to thrill her
STEVE: He thinks he’s such a lady-killer…
FURY: I’ve a girl back home who’s unlike any other
TONY: Yeah, the only chick who’d love him is his mother
THOR: But when we come home victorious they will line up at the gates!
TONY: What do we want?

CLINT: Wish that I had the girl I’m fighting by…

This makes sense when you know the story of Þrymskviða. Þrymskviða is a Norse poem in which Thor's hammer, Mjölnir, get's stolen by a giant who uses it to try to get Frayja to be his wife. So Thor and Loki decide to get back Mjölnir by dressing up Thor as the bride and Loki as the bridesmaid. Somehow this works and in the end, when Thor finally gets Mjölnir back, he kills all the giants at the ceremony and goes back home, presumably in his dress.
