Federal Monitor Troubled by Lack of Recording Devices at Police Shooting in Seattle

The court-appointed monitor in charge of overseeing reform in the Seattle Police Department said it’s “troubling” that somehow no police cameras were rolling during a recent officer-involved shooting

How long have I’ve been saying that not just patrol cars, but police officers (and even all public servants) should be required to wear video/audio/gps recording devices.  This will avoid and prevent way too many crimes and protect not only the public but also those officers.  How hard is it to understand that concept?  Is it that somehow the government wants their police to be corrupt, unscrupulous and consequently, not trustworthy to the people?  With today’s technology, it just doesn’t seem logical that this hasn’t been a natural upgrade/evolution to ALL police departments across the United States.  Here is what KOMO news had to say:

In late February, two men separately called police to say their brother was holding their father hostage at knife point in their North Seattle home.

Police say 21-year-old Jack Keewatinawin later grabbed a piece of rebar and made a move toward an officer. Police opened fire and killed the man.

During a Tuesday committee briefing, Councilman Bruce Harrell, who chairs the Public Safety Committee, mentioned an officer involved shooting where no dash board cameras were turned on.

Below is an article of only but one of the many potential technologies that could be implemented in this case:

Why you should have a dash camera

Dashboard cameras are not just for police vehicles anymore.  They have now evolved into a valuable tool to protect ordinary commuters from the unscrupulous. How many horror stories have we heard about innocent drivers who have to pay large amounts of cash for accidents that was not really their fault?  With a dash camera installed in your vehicle, these kind of problems are things of the past.
