Well it’s here.. PORTALS, the new music blog that is the equivalent to a fuckin space station. The site’s material is brought to you by 16 different music blogs and if their official mix-tape is any indication of quality, PORTALS just might blow your mind.
So in honor of PORTALS, the godfather of Nightmare Disco, LUST returns to Strange Fires with another slice of shadowy neon heaven.

“Room Sixteen” sounds like the slow strut of a picturesque femme fatale as she walks with a smirk through a dark alley in the wrong part of town.
Between sexy sax parts, slow funky grooves, ghostly synths and punchy builds, LUST(Dillon Morton) really pulls an all out slam-dunk with this track.

Yet another reason to attend Denver’s Gold Rush Music Festival. LUST aka Dillon Morton is from Boulder, CO and makes some rad dark electro pop most accurately described as “Dark Disco”. It’s an authentic categorization too, there really isnt anything “Draggy” or “Witch-House-y” about LUST. His new EP entitled Dark Water is a really fun listen, even though some of the tracks are just interludes.
The EP’s title track is a bold sinister boogie for the ages. A shadowy peepshow of erotic grooves for a midnight driving sequence through a dystopian city

MOOGWAI

Teeel

Teeel, “MOOGWAI”, off Tycho’s ISO50 compilation.

I have a thing for Teeel’s sound. It’s moody and raw, expressed through the steadily grinding bass and Teeel’s own languid, softly sinister words:

“I’m changing from a man to a beast tonight.”

I almost want to inject heroin and watch someone I love fuck someone else. That’s the vibe I get from Teeel.

MOOGWAI certainly carries the sordid 80s sound we’ve come to expect from the Mr. Teeel. As for the name of the track we’ll defer to the artist: Through scientific R&D, I was able to fuse a MOOG synthesizer with a Mogwai from the movie “Gremlins” to make a super hybrid known as a MOOGWAI.
