Hello!
Tumblr is where tens of millions of creative people around the world share and follow the things they love.
Sign up to find more cool stuff to followhere WE stand - how Jorah Mormont relates to the rest of his family (especially the women)
I’ve been wanting to meta about the Mormont women and their similarities to Jorah and Jeor for a long time, and since we won’t be getting any Mormont women in season 3 of Game of Thrones this seemed like a good time to discuss it.
Sometimes I see people claiming that Jorah is a stain on his family, that they’re much better than him, that Mormonts are awesome “except for Jorah”, etc. It’s fine not to like him - there are plenty of good reasons not to, because he has a ton of flaws, and has made a LOT of mistakes. But I think he shares a lot of his flaws with his kinswomen (and his father), and I’d like to explain why.
(Someday I will probably also do a meta on the Mormont women independently, because I certainly don’t think they can ONLY be viewed in relation to Jorah; it’s just that we see a lot more of him and his character development in the series so there’s more to analyze if I use him as a lens here.)
I don’t get why Mormont isn’t a more popular house. Every Mormont that we’ve been introduced too has been a beautiful, well rounded character. Jorah and Jeor are both huge supporting characters and both are so developed and loved by fandom.
All of the women are warriors who must learn how to fight at a young age because Bear Island is constanly being attacked by Wildings and Ironmen. Also their island is farther north than Winterfell, which means it’s cold.
They are a loyal and honorable house and are one of the first to raise banners for Robb. The heir to the house, Dacey Mormont, was on Robb’s war council and fought beside him in every battle, and became one of his personal guards (Robb doesn’t have an official “Kingsguard” but if he did I’m pretty sure Dacey would be on it).
Dacey’s really not talked about that much (though she is present at some very important events) but I would love it if she were cast for the show. She’s just awesome, and wields a big ol’ mace.
All of the Mormont’s are awesome, lbr.
