curriculumvitiate.wordpress.comCurriculum Vitae is a blog sharing the woes of unemployment and drudgery through group interviews, rejection letters, awkward phone interviews. Funnily enough, I know the Benedict, the author, as he used to work in a bookshop near my office and we smoked together. Then he lost that job, but later turned up at an arts centre I occasionally visited. He lost that job too evidently.
The Upside wishes you good luck in your quest for a fulfilling job Benedict. One question though; if you get a job, will the blog stop?

CV Tip - avoiding buzzwords
squawkfox.comThis is a pretty neat article taken from a series called “How to Write a Resume”. I think it’s quite spot on - using generic statements to buzzwords will get you nowhere, those reading the CV want evidence to support what you’re saying.
Será que o Fran já conseguiu trampo?

Que não combina com bom designer gráfico.
É pouco.
Fran Sánches fez um CV à mil milhas de distância do Word.
E muito próximo das suas melhores competências.
Eu o contrataria.

Job searching...
As I’m soon leaving school forever - which I’m not particularly happy about - I need to somehow get a full-time job. I currently have a part-time job at Toys R Us, but I can no longer stand it, and need to get out of there and into a real job in the real world.
As most full-time employers are too busy to deal with people coming in and hand in CVs, they mainly get us to apply online. I’ve noticed that even the majority of major part-time employers are also doing this. I think it’s kinda silly really, because I would have thought they would want to see what you were like before they read your CV, but evidently that doesn’t seem to be “the norm”.
Anyway, I’ve been applying for jobs online for the past week or so, and there’s something that really bugs me. Employers read through CVs, and expect absolute full, grammatically correct applications, which are all written to a reasonably high standard. The incorporation of a few “big words” here and there don’t seem to go amiss either. Now, that’s all well and good, but what really grinds my gears (Family Guy reference) is that the advertisements for the jobs are usually poorly written, constructed and contain spelling and grammatical errors.
Yeah, I’m aware that it’s us that need the jobs and are desperate for them, so they have the upper hand, but, why should I put in all the effort if they’re not going to at least attempt to do the same?
Maybe if everybody did what employers do and refused anything that had errors in it, then maybe employers would put in the extra effort. I think this should be a thing. This should happen. However, I think it’s probably just me that thinks this.
Dammit.
Curriculum vitae: Rolando S. Tinio
scribd.comThis is the definitive CV of Rolando S. Tinio. He wrote it himself, and was updating it until he passed away in July 1997. His whole body of work, from his poetry and plays, to his translations, stage productions, newspaper columns, pop songs, film and TV scripts, and acting appearances, among others, is meticulously documented. It’s 50 pages long, so I’ve added a table of contents as well as some posthumous data.
so, i did a stupid thing. i only had my CV saved in one place, which was my parent’s computer, and when i went back there to make a copy of it i basically found that their computer is so fucked it won’t even switch on. basically, i’ve gotta rewrite my whole CV. if anyone wouldn’t mind emailing me a copy of theirs to use as a style template i would be eternally grateful! lauramariescott@hotmail.com
