core77.comWhat causes this mix of dismay and delight? Designers are trained as craftspeople, without any substantive knowledge of the content areas in which they do their work. My dismay comes from their lack of understanding and by the confidence with which they proclaim masterful solutions to the world’s problems. They often produce innovative, clever solutions, but with no evidence that they have actually addressed the most critical parts of the problem or that their solutions actually work. They are often unaware that others have toiled with those issues for decades, that the problems are deep and profound, and that no single approach, no matter how brilliant, will suddenly solve all the issues.
Angle Bluetooth Headset
The Angle Bluetooth headset created by Michael Harboun exclusively for the iphone comes with some geat new design features. Instead of fumbling with headphone cables or fishing for elusive earpieces, the “Angle” is more like a natural extension of a smartphone case—specifically (and tellingly) for the iPhone. In an easy gesture, you activate the conversation by sliding the phone on your ear. The movement naturally lays down Angle on your ear and you can now benefit from the hands-free communication. The Phone is still in its concept mode but This project has been done in partnership with European telecommunication provider Orange. The product is currently being studied by the company for possible manufacturing.

One of my biggest gripes with Apple is the way they have unapologetically brainwashed designers and manufactures. People seem to think the only way their product will ever be successful is if it is stylized and branded under the banner of Apple hegemony. Who know what innovative ideas have been thrown to the wayside as a result of this coat tail riding.
Beautiful Bike by Core77
Just to show that there are no limits in the current world of branding, Core 77, one of the kings of the design blog scene is launching its own bike.
Instead of doing the obvious and launching a publishing arm and producing books, Core 77 used its connections and understanding of the zeitgeist to produce a beautiful hand-crafted bicycle.
