“There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home. ”

- Ken Olsen, 1977

Ken Olsen was the president, chairman, and founder of Digital Equipment Corporation. Besides mainframe systems, the company also developed minicomputers for science and engineering. Olsen, who himself had a personal computer at home, could not imagine that one day computers could be used to run the house, i.e. control doors, windows, and other electronics. [Source: Wikipedia

My little slice of heaven.

I love coming to small local coffee shops and once in a while look up from whatever I am doing and looking around at the people around me. People reading their books, on their computers, having conversations with their friends over a cup of coffee or the college students cramming for those midterm papers. They look so peaceful, determined and concentrated.

It makes me smile, seeing people all comfortable with a bunch of strangers in the same room, each doing their own thing.

The smell of coffee and pastries. The sound of low conversations, the heat of computers running and the whirring of coffee machines.

How can you not love this?

*sidenote* I just heard a girl talking to her friend about this book she just received from amazon.com and she says “I got it from amazon.com so it’s used, but it just means it has been loved..”
