gamophobia
I’ve just discovered that there is actually a phobia with regards to commitment and marriage. It’s called “gamophobia” and it’s described as “an exaggerated or irrational fear of marriage.”
Symptoms, according to the somewhat dubiously named Right Diagnosis, include irrational fear, feeling of panic, feeling of dread, trembling, shortness of breath, feeling of terror, anxiety and my favorite, “extreme avoidance measures taken.
Sadly, I cannot seem to find many reliable sources of information about this phobia, but it definitely gave me a chuckle this morning as I sit in the mechanic’s waiting room.
