Downtown/Twin Peaks Adventure
So Brittany and I went to Clifton’s tonight in Downtown to see this art show of pieces inspired by Twin Peaks and some concept art done by David Lynch. I have two things to say about this night.
1. So many hipsters. So fucking many. I actually couldn’t tell who were poorly-dressed tv-philes and who were ironically poorly dressed out-to-be-seen hipsters.
2. OHMYGOD it was amazing. Now I am not familiar with the Twin Peaks universe, Brittany is- but I am a sucker for folk art. I especially liked David Lynch’s minimalist concept pieces. A little off-topic, but they reminded me of the illustrations in this book I loved as a kid, “Monster Road” by David Lubar. Anyway, folk art appeals to me because it’s so kitchy and engaging and doesn’t follow any rules- but never seems douche-y like contemporary art. And most of the pieces there were of that vein. I can say with full confidence that you could go to this never having seen one episode, but have a great time. I know I did.
I’m not sure how long it runs for, but it’s completely free and doors are open until 11pm. The exhibit is held in Clifton’s Cafeteria in Downtown LA on Broadway in the Theater District.
