Latter-Day
I think I came to the conclusion a while ago that these commercials were only aired in certain parts of the country. I grew up in Massachusetts but friends of mine from the New York area don’t seem to have heard about them.
They were commercials from the 80’s for “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints” (aka The Mormons). Ring any bells for anyone?
My favorite (and I’ve scoured You Tube & the internets as a whole and I cannot find a clip of it anywhere) involved two sisters…..two BALLERINA sisters. The older sister was graceful and beautiful. The younger sister, jealous of her older sister. So on the eve of the big recital, Younger Ballerina Sister STEALS Older Ballerina Sister’s pearls.
“HOW COULD SHE POSSIBLY GO ON?!?!” You scream??? “I DON’T KNOW!” I scream back!!
Older Ballerina Sister is all like “Shit y’all, ma pearls are MISSING!” but she goes on to dance anyway, while Younger Ballerina Sister watches from the wings, being slowly consumed by her guilt. A song starts playing and a girl (implied to be the Younger Ballerina) sings:
I feel so dark inside
I feel like I want to cry.
It’s hard to live with a lie.
She then goes to her sister and is like “Oh honorable older Ballerina Sister, I stole your pearls.” and then Older Ballerina Sister is like “YAY! Ma Pearls Y’all!!”
And that’s the end.
…..Best Commercial Ever….
