I know this is an over-covered topic, but just wondering what your opinion was on the whole Rihanna-Chris Brown situation.

TW: Abuse and Abusive Relationships

I don’t think my opinion on them and their relationship is anything revolutionary. At least, I don’t think it should be.

I empathize with Rihanna. People have said she’s “dumb” or “deserves what she gets” because she stays with him, but I know better than that. I know it’s a cycle. I’ve been through that cycle, myself. What people don’t understand is that it’s the cycle that gets you; it keeps you coming back… and that’s really difficult to explain to someone who hasn’t lived through it.

Things can seem very loving and normal part of the time in an abusive relationship. If it were bad all the time, then the person being abused would be out of there. It’s the hope and promise of those happy, strong-bonded, loving times that make you put up with the abuse. It’s the fact that your world has become so small, you no longer have anyone else you can talk to, nowhere else to go. And soon, you’re stuck, trapped.

I loathe Chris Brown no more, no less than any other piece of shit scumbag that abuses another human being. I think he’s repulsive for the shit he spews at other women as well, for the tattoo on his neck. But how do I feel about Rihanna? I wish her the best. I hope she finds a way to get all the happiness and health that she deserves, and although I don’t hold it against her for being with Chris Brown, I’m always hoping for her to break free of him.
