“The topography around Manizales is relentless, so the way that you usually end a training ride here is with a 20km climb to get home. That’s just how it is. Anyway you go, that’s what you’re faced with. *** Because it’s so mountainous here, if you want a flat ride, you basically have to go to the velodrome. It’s about 400 meters, and the turns are fairly flat, which is great because then everyone can use it.”
