After complaining on Facebook about being cat called the other day, a friend of mine messaged me, told me men mean it as a compliment, and that my complaining made me seem vain.
She said its clear I am confident and that’s why men do it, she said she is not and she never got these ‘street compliments’

I’m just done. No. No, that’s not why strange men shout at women.

So we had a mini argument, she told me I was wrong, I explained all the reasons I was right.

Then (and this is what had out me into a stunned state of disbelief) she asked me what I was wearing ‘to make him do that’

Rape culture goes so deep. This makes me sad and angry.

(And by the by, it was 9am after the school run, baggy jeans, no make up, hoodie and hair in a ponytail. But that changes nothing to if it were a Friday night and I was in a mini skirt with my boobs out. It’s not ok.)
