Public Service Announcement

Some of you might remember me mentioning this before.

It’s a small thing, this, but it just annoys the bejeesus out of me. It’s a fantasic study on how people blindly accept anything put forward by the internet.

If you look this up (under the name ‘Castle House Island’), you get this picture, over and over, described as being in “Dublin, Ireland”. This is all anyone seems to say about it, except that they would love to go there.

I’ve pointed out before that there is no way in hell that this is in Dublin, Ireland, or even in Ireland at all. I do live there, and I think I would have noticed. Also as I have pointed out before, this is what the coastline looks like here.

Nice? Yes. The same as that picture? To anyone who has thought the slightest bit about this or done any research at all, obviously not. So where is it, then?

Well, as five minutes on Google informed me, apparently it isn’t anywhere. I mentioned that there is no information on it out there apart from an incorrect location; there’s a reason for this.

Hey, does that giant rock look slightly familiar to anyone?

I realise it seems silly to get worked up about something small like this, but it’s just indicative of how easily incorrect information can get about. This is listed as ‘Dublin, Ireland’ everywhere. I have no idea how that happened, but it worries me that something so obviously outrageously inaccurate can spread around so easily.

Just because it’s on the internet doesn’t mean it’s true.
