we just finished up a book in which the fraternal twin protagonists have sex at the very end, which i didn’t realize until i was sitting in class rereading over parts i had only previously skimmed

and the whole “why EXACTLY do we respond to incest with such utter disgust and etc.” question is something that has come up before (probably in conversation with clair because that’s how conversations with clair work sometimes) but i mean i’ve pretty much just generally brushed it off because it makes me SO UNCOMFORTABLE and grossed out but

the author was using it to draw a parallel between how a character in the book who could easily be considered villainous for judging and essentially condemning 2 other characters to exile/death for having sex outside of their race/caste system and how the same basic feelings of disgust and horror regarding some “taboo” sex stuff still exist and stuff yeah

and so i was like “why does this make me feel uncomfortable i want ANSWERS” and i googled that and then she asked us the same question as a class and i Still Don’t Know but It Still Does
