Chanel's Little Black Jacket

Chanel is a truly timeless brand. It’s been around since 1909, over 100 years of success. Coco Chanel, the founder & former designer (died in 1971) of Chanel, released 2 main iconic pieces: the little black dress and the little black jacket. Chanel’s little black dress, hands down, is more memorable piece, but Chanel’s black jacket is getting some shine now too.

It’s been called Chanel’s little black jacket, but the more correct name is Chanel’s cardigan jacket. There are different variations of the black jacket, but the original cardigan jacket was released in 1923. Sadly, I couldn’t find a picture of the original jacket, but I could find one of Coco herself working on a variation of one of Chanel’s jackets (shown above).

Fast forward to more recent times now..In 1983, Karl Lagerfeld became the head designer and creative director of Chanel. He’s been doin’ his thing for a while over there. I’d say around April of this year, 2012, Karl redesigned the iconic jacket and put together the Little Black Jacket project (shown above).

What Karl Lagerfeld has done to the jacket is make it even more versatile by making it wearable for all sexes. In the book, you’ll see Kanye West, Theophilus London (shown below), and other male style icons featured in the book. The book showcases pictures from a couple photoshoots done by Karl and Carine Roitfeld, stylist and former editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris. (both shown above). Karl gathered over 100 actors, entertainers, famous ass niggas…everybody, to be featured in Chanel’s new, redesigned little black jacket. Carine styled everyone featured in the book (I hope not Kanye and London though because I’d like to believe they are the genius behind their own style) and Karl was the photographer.

The book releases on August 15th, be sure to get it if you have the chance. I really chose to post about this because I’ve recently gotten HEAVILY interested in high fashion and I saw Kanye West and Theophilus London in the same jacket, so I knew there had to be more to it.
