The typing has not been released officially, you are right!
HOWEVER staff of Pokemon smash were given a gaming demo to test Pokemon in battle and they used that to test for Sylveon’s typing
They found out in testing that the combination of its weakness + strengths matched NO OTHER typing that existed, period
This suggests that either:
A) Sylveon is duel typed (which I doubt because that kinda ruins the point of eevee; ALSO dual typing was disproven through the type testing too but who knows maybe it was a mistake)
B) Sylveon is a new type. You are correct in that the typing and its name have not been confirmed so fairy typing is just a guess. HOWEVER, a person with an “inside scoop” was recently shown to be proven right in his predictions.
This source originally was ignored because hey, people spout bullshit all the time with new Pokemon, but this guy was right on a new move AS WELL as several Pokemon names before their reveal. He claims it’s a fairy typing and that several Pokemon will be retconned into the fairy typing.
Now then you are correct in that this all technically speculation BUT it has a high possibiity of being true at this point! All we can do right now is anticipate and wait!
