seriously, that’s what the film does.  there’s whole monologues about how awesome he was

ahem, did you know that the changes he wanted to make would have set England back about a hundred years, oppressed the people, and put in place a strict theocracy where religious freedom would have been laughable?

i’m not saying the government at the time was perfect because it wasn’t.  but Guy Fawkes wasn’t some kind of hero fighting oppression.  quite the opposite.

i was gonna take that bit out but then i realised that other culture’s celebrations demand the same sort of respect.  like, if it were a religious celebration people wouldn’t want it to be associated with a film that goes against the very meaning of it?
