Committing crimes makes YOU a bad person, not your race, not your religion, not your nation. If you can’t understand this, feel free to continue being charlatans posing as ‘internet politicians’. You offer nothing to the human race except your potential to produce yet more culturally lacking offspring.
You know, I just don’t understand queer erasure. If you think about it, it doesn’t even make sense because it’s a double standard.
In every fandom fans make straight characters gay to suit their ships. I’m certainly guilty of it and I’m sure you are, too. Is this wrong? No. Why? Because by god it’s benefitting a minority so of course it can’t be wrong. Yet when someone dares to make a gay character straight (what an anomaly), everyone becomes personally offended. Why? Because it’s queer erasure. Now, what I don’t understand is why this is only considered an offense, for by the same infallible logic, wouldn’t changing a straight character’s sexuality to gay be considered straight erasure? If an argument is to be seriously considered, it cannot be based on hypocrisies.
It seems that the main argument for queer erasure is that there are so few canonically gay characters in the first place that no one should dare change their sexuality. However, if you really think about it, gay people aren’t that prevalent in society. Yes, it may certainly seem that way just because of the sheer population size that you are subjected to on a daily basis, but in reality, queer people account for maximum 10% of the population. When this is taken into account for the much smaller population size that is present in books/movies/etc., queer representation really isn’t that off. It would be entirely unrealistic to have half the people be queer. So quite honestly, it’s really rather unfair to demand otherwise. Do queer people deserve representation? Absolutely. But please do not expect an overly large proportion, it’s truly not representative. Therefore, using this argument as a basis for queer erasure really isn’t all that logical because it kind of works against you…
However, despite all this, please stop attacking people’s ships that are supposedly “queer erasure.” What does it matter to you if Jenny ships Enjonine (as an example) and you ship Grantaire and Enjolras? Their shipping doesn’t affect you. In fact, you’re probably not even aware that they’re shipping them. When you put yourself in your own little world, it’s quite simple to co-exist peacefully because frankly, you’re not aware of the other.
I also may as well put that I am indeed a lesbian. This way I can stop being accused of not knowing anything about this. I’m not rude enough so as to attempt to intrude on something that I have no place intruding on.
*sigh* I also may as well add that yes, I know that straight erasure isn’t an actual thing. That’s why I was comparing it to queer erasure because I personally do not believe that queer erasure exists.
