One of my top influences as a web/mobile professional is the legendary Buckminster “Bucky” Fuller. He was a visionary who conquered multiple fields such as design, architecture, science, and engineering. He referred to himself as “an emerging synthesis of artist, inventor, mechanic, objective economist and evolutionary strategist.”
But more than a professional influence in a matter of his thinking, he is one of my heroes. Bucky went beyond questioning our existence to literally designing and engineering for the improvement of humanity in its entirety.
For those of you who don’t know who Buckminster Fuller is, the following video is an excellent introduction. It was produced for the opening of the 2009 Buckminster Fuller Exhibition at the Museum of Comtemporary Art in Chicago.
“The case of the billionaire on a sinking ship who offers to pay a billion dollars for the life preserver, buoyantly supporting the one and only life belted individual floating safe from the disaster, which offer the lucky one rejects, even though finally bid for at the tycoon’s limit of a billion dollars cash money, proves that money is not wealth for it cannot buy any henceforth days of life.”
