The Brony Fandom Right Now.
This is something that I would like to address, not because I think many people will read it, though I hope they do and not because I want to put in my input, but I feel like this may provide a little closure. At the very least it helps me feel better.
I know lately things have been…well at least here on Tumblr things seem pretty grim in the fandom.
There was the whole Derpy indecent the Princess Twilight Fiasco, and now this whole thing with Fighting is Magic has definitely not helped things things at all.
I know we all want to throw the blame on someone. Everyone wants to blame Hasbro right away, Copyrights, product placement, etc. But at the end of the day everyone needs to remember something.
We are part of something that was never meant to be here. This is still a big thing, a big change, something that will still take years to get used to. I suppose Hasbro never intended for someone to make a game out of a show for technicolor ponies for fun and this was just their way of doing things.
It was something that was never meant to be there. Change is a hard thing to accept. I think we all know this.
Before I get too far off the path here, all I really want to say is…
I am sorry.
I am sorry things have been so rough lately.
I am sorry about what happened to Derpy.
And though I may personally be indifferent about the whole Princess Twilight thing I could understand why some people would freak out, change is difficult…and I am sorry about that.
And to the Mane6 Dev Team, I am so sorry about what happened so much work seeming all for nothing now. But I am glad that you all seem to be taking it pretty smoothly. Well played.
And I am sorry if this does not help anyone feel better.
I know things seem bad right now in the fandom but I want you to remind you all of something.
We are all part of this fandom. We are part of a fandom that was not even intended to exist, change is a hard thing to accept and we have changed a lot of things.
People don’t like change, which is why I feel the fandom seems to be breaking right now.
Now is not the time to be arguing, complaining, or looking for who to throw the blame at.
Now is the time to stop and think about it, we are all bronies, we are all here because we enjoy the show.
No, that does not mean we have to love and tolerate everything negative that happens within this fandom, but …I think it at least means we dont automatically have to hate each other. Everyone has their own opinions on things and we should all at least respect that.
All I can really say is “Do better.” I know it’s hard, and right now times are tough here, but nobody wants to see this awesome thing we have falling apart the way it is.
So at the very least, if you are not going to tolerate things you disagree with, at least dont spread hate.
Do better.
Thanks.
I'm a brony, and I'm sorry
roundstable.comWow, just wow! This man expresses something I’ve been feeling more and more the last two years now.
Actually less recently I think. I’ve come to accept how things are, but it’s still been gnawing at the back of my head.
It’s pretty steep, I know, but if you choose to take the time, it’s well worth the read.
I love how there are all kinds of people pointing out problems with the Brony fandom. The “I thought Bronies were nice but look at this hate mail I got” and the “Bronies are supposed to love and tolerate… but look a this!”. In a nutshell, there are problems that some people run into with individual Bronies or groups of Bronies that they think are problems with the whole fandom. Things like clopping and immature attitudes are frowned upon by many. Many people don’t think enough to realize that the Brony fandom is made up of all kinds of different individuals, and not stereotypes. When people make fun of a thing that some Bronies do and apply it to the rest of the fandom, it just pisses me off.
Here are a few examples of this type of logic that has been applied to the Brony fandom and other things. I’m disappointed with how some people would dispute some of these things and not others.
{Some Bronies clop, so all Bronies clop.}
{Some Muslims are terrorists, so all Muslims are terrorists.}
{Some Bronies are immature, so all Bronies are immature.}
{Some black people commit crimes, so all black people commit crimes.}
{Some Bronies are assholes, so all Bronies are assholes.}
{Some southerners are hicks, so all southerners are hicks.}
The list goes on and on.
