A good thing:
A Madagascan pochard duckling, one of 18 hatched in a breeding programme on the island, took his first steps. The duckling, named Voalonany, meaning ‘the first’ in Malagasy, is one of only 60 of his species in the world. The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) launched a programme to save the bird, the world’s most endangered duck, in 2009.

A bad thing:
An estimated 7.3 million primary school aged children in Pakistan do not attend school, depriving them of their right to education, and preventing them from reaching their full potential. Foal watch: Intro Post
My school has this really cool hands-on program called “foal watch”. Basically you’re assigned one of the psychotic Arabian broodmares and your group is in charge of this one mare until she foals. I decided to sign up (goodbye what little free-time I had left) and requested a mare named Bella. I admit I picked her because she is the prettiest mare and she’s carrying her own foal (a lot of the mares are embryo transfer). I’m kind of tempted to blog about her progress on here. I don’t know if it will be very interesting or exciting, or if anyone is actually going to read this, but it gives me something to procrastinate with. Because I definitely need more distractions in my life right now…

This is Bella, or “CP Isabella”, my group’s mare. Our first day with her starts tomorrow!
