Joe's Science Book Recommendations!

itsokaytobesmart.com

People are always asking me “Hey, Joe! Do you have any recommendations for books I should read about ________?!”

You bet I do! I’ve put together a list of science books that I think are entertaining, well-written, widely accessible, and most of all, will teach you something. It’s not a comprehensive list, and if you think there’s something that just has to be on there, let me know on Twitter, message me on Tumblr or email me at itsokaytobesmart <at> gmail.com.

I’ll be constantly updating it, so bookmark it and check back from time to time to see what else has been added. Whether you’re looking for gift ideas, brain food for yourself, or you just want to put them on your bookshelf to look smarter, there’s something there for everyone. Biology, Brains, Physics, Space, Art, History and more.

Enjoy!

FAQs: Book Recommendations?

I am frequently asked what books I can recommend for people waiting for book 3 to come out. My answer to this question is always “well, it depends on what you like or what you’re looking for!” which isn’t terribly helpful, so I’m going to do my best with this list.

In order to not get overwhelmed by possibilities, I have restricted this list to 1. books that I have read in the past year or so, 2. books that have come out fairly recently, and 3. books that came to mind first. It is by no means intended to include all the books I have read and liked, or all the books that are good and worth reading within these categories. It’s just sort of off the cuff.

Still on a dystopia kick?
Delirium by Lauren Oliver
Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

Feeling a sci-fi vibe?
Insignia by S.J. Kincaid
What’s Left Of Me by Kat Zhang
Across the Universe by Beth Revis
Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Sci-fi with more action?
False Memory by Dan Krokos

Excellent YA fantasy?
The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

How about something beautiful and creepy?
Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma

A hybrid of contemporary and fantastical?
The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

Straight up contemporary?
Wanderlove by Kirsten Hubbard
A Midsummer’s Nightmare by Kody Keplinger
The List by Siobhan Vivian

11 Books You Should Read If You're A Woman in Your 20s | Thought Catalog

thoughtcatalog.com

I’ve only read #1 and am currently reading #3, so this is a good list! Plus it’s a mix of contemporary and classics.

Every woman should read The Awakening. It’s like the original How To Be a Badass Independent Beezy Manual. And it’s beautifully written, and it’s really short! Like 90 pages.

When I’m done reading Gone Girl you can read my review on my Goodreads.
