I have an issue with the Blue Lanterns

Specifically the idea of ‘hope’.

It doesn’t mean sitting and waiting for something to happen. It’s not about passivity.

Hope, in the way the Blue Lanterns treat it, is greater than willpower.

Look at it like this. Batman will never give up. That’s hard. That’s what it takes to be a Green Lantern. But he doesn’t do it smiling. He does it for Justice, for Vengeance, not for the future.

Stephanie Brown will never give up, and part of that is her belief- not only that the world will survive- but that things will get better. That she can make things get better.

That isn’t blind optimism. Characters like Steph and Saint Walker know about the darkness. They look at it and they make themselves see a way through.

And that takes work and strength and ferocious dedication.

When Blue Lanterns say ‘All will be well’ they don’t mean that they’re going to wait for it to happen. They mean that they will make it be well.

In short; hope doesn’t exist in someone by itself. It takes willpower. Every Blue Lantern could be a Green Lantern, but they have something more.

The Blue Lanterns are the fucking masters of the universe, is what I’m saying.
