I just got off the phone with Pastor Dean of the Midnight Miracle Hour on blogtalkradio. This is not an apologetics show, but Pastor Dean and his panel have been gracious enough to indulge me for a good 40 or so minutes before, and we repeated that tonight.
Last time we got very bogged down in the acceptability of textual evidence for miracle claims. Pastor Dean is a biblical literalist, and believes that the fact that the bible has been studied ad nauseum proves its legitimacy. That particular discussion got nowhere.
The program was opened with a challenge to atheists to say a specific prayer and then read a chapter from the book of John, a combination which was supposed to magically thaw our hearts and open them to god. Pastor Dean claimed that atheists would not do this because they were cowardly. He also insinuated that atheists have not read the bible. I have.
Tonight he tried to steer me back in the direction of biblical accuracy, pointing me to several well known and laughable apologists such as Lee Strobel (intelligent design proponent). I didn’t take the bait.
He then went on a tangent about how he beat alcoholism after god spoke to him. I’m glad he did and I told him as much. But I do think it’s a tragedy that Pastor Dean doesn’t believe he was strong enough to do such a thing on his own. I digress.
Pastor Dean then began to tell me that “secular colleges” are responsible for leading many young people astray. Particularly philosophy courses.
This was followed by a detailing of the numerous “healings” he has both performed and witnessed, asserting they were proof of god. This lasted a very long time, and I barely got a word in edgewise. An old apologetics trick is to rattle off an endless list of claims so that when one goes back to address the first there is plausible deniability that they spake what you claim they did.
I reiterated to him that I did not accept personal experience as proof of anything, deity or otherwise.
“Why?” he asked me in a soft but slightly pointed tone (Pastor Dean has experience in broadcasting, and he’s a pleasure to listen to. It’s quite calming.).
I asked him if he would believe me if I told him I was abducted by aliens. He said this was “a stretch,” but wouldn’t say why.
I then granted that medicine cannot fully explain why some people mysteriously get better, but this was not proof of anything except that fact. I asked him if perfectly healthy people keeling over and dying were proof that god doesn’t exist. He “didn’t see the parallel.”
Ultimately, I was told that we had to come to an end because 1) our conversation already spanned a commercial break and 2) the program is not an apologetics program.
Pastor Dan said he enjoys talking to me (Possibly because he proselytized for a majority of the call and didn’t give me much of a chance to speak. He lets dissidents speak, but not as much as those professing miracles). He also told me I had a remarkable vernacular for someone my age (No shit, Pastor Dean).
I was once again invited to call back, and I do not plan on shirking the offer. Hopefully next time we will delve into whether Pastor Dean supports slavery, the murder of witches, genocide, female submissiveness to their husbands or the stoning of homosexuals.
Even Jesus would be excited.

Dreams Manifest: Shivie interviews Naima Singletary as Host of Tribal Truth Radio
blogtalkradio.comYes, that’s me on the audio above doing my first ever radio show-it was sooooo much fun. Read on to see how it “manifested” very quickly after I declared it.

Baptism By Fire, Part II…Power of Declaration
Today we continue the theme of Baptism By Fire (“BFF”). The second burning is the one that has captivated me. Less than a week ago I declared that I wanted to become known as a great interviewer after reading some works by Heather Vale.
I had never thought of interviewing as an art until I read Heather’s work. I love the stories of how we get to where we are and the challenges and triumphs of the way. What better way to get to know someone than through their stories. And what better way to hear and learn the lessons we need to learn than through another’s story of their experience?
Less than a week later and I just did my first BlogTalkRadio show as host for Tribal Truth. I will now be doing the show every Monday at 4pm. How about that for manifesting?
Through my declaration and action I am a step closer to my dream, I have a platform to work from and the opportunity to hone my skill.
And more than that, I really loved the experience. I only found out this morning that I was going to be the host, I thought I was going to ask a couple of questions. Turns out my BFF today was one of the highlights of my year.
I put aside my fears, opened my heart and trusted that all was divinely unfolding. And as I get ready to curl up with my honey I know it has and will continue to do so. In the past three weeks we have put on our biggest live resentation, done our first preview call and I have had my first radio host show.
That’s the beauty of the BFF when it strikes, it accelerates the learning curve and suddenl y you are on the other side of the track.
And the phoenix rises again and again.
I would love to hear your phoenix rising stories…
I remember at the beginning of this volume a friend saying, “Be careful what you wish for, you are a powerful woman.”
It was the first time I had heard that and over the past decade those words have taken on a huge significance in my life.
First in the recognition that I have power to co create my path and secondly, that when I wish for something I start with declaring it, after all words are powerful, not just mine, everyone’s, including yours!
This can bring a huge new awareness when we look at how we spend and sow our words in the world. Do we use them to encourage and uplift knowing that all is well or do we use them to tear down and make others feel small so we don’t feel so small ourselves?
So when I have an inkling to do something I “put it out there.” If I need more motivation I look at a way of doing something bigger that will “lock me in” to completing. What do you do?
Reminder: Swan Queen on the airwaves
blogtalkradio.comJust a heads up - Thursday 14th at 7.30pm EST (00.30 BST) we will be doing blogtalkradio talking about all things Swan Queen. We = allaine, me, heartsways, writetherest and the-charmings (adventurepants). That’s two Brits, two Americans and two impossibly stubborn characters to debate about.
We’re going to talk favourite scenes, why we ship it, our season 2 wishlists and a whole host of other things. YOU can call in, too. I will say exciting things in my (naturally) super-sexy accent. You’ll swoon, it’ll be awesome.
Blogtalkradio - Swan Queen Comes Alive
blogtalkradio.comExciting news, Swan Queen fans. Allaine will be interviewing Maleficently and has asked me to co-host. We’ll be discussing her fic (the hugely popular “Plunge” series among others), Emma and Regina, and the show in general.
Here’s where you can join in: if you have a question you want answered, or want to throw something in there for us to talk about, you can! Stick a question in my ask box and I’ll pick out some of the best for Maleficently, Allaine and myself to include in the show.
Please mark questions with “radio show” and have at it.

Thoughts from a Lunatic; Kelly ClarksonWhilst raiding a blogtalkradio show, a group of trolls get more than they bargained for when they discover the co-host is completely fucking batshit. Please don’t listen if you’re easily offended, but the lovely lunatic named “Tammy” in this clip has some, um, endearing sentiments regarding Kelly Clarkson.
ENJOY!
