Best Western?
I’m pretty annoyed right now. I’m so annoyed, I’m actually writing this blog while in my room at Best Western with my boyfriend. I wanted to write a quick review of my hotel experience so far. The best word to describe it so far is BULLSHIT.
We paid $80 for this room (can you believe this was the cheapest hotel we could find?), and that was actually the rate with a coupon we found in a hotel booklet - So, if you’re ever traveling and need a hotel, I highly recommend hunting down a hotel coupon book (they’re free, and can usually be found at gas stations).
At first, the guy at the night window told us that our room would be $100, which was absolutely ridiculous. At that rate, I could just go stay at the Hampton or the Hilton. We then looked through the coupon book and found that we could get the room for $69 - but somehow, we still ended up paying $80. We were exhausted, so we just dealt with it.
Well, I have definitely not gotten my money’s worth whatsoever.
The hotel’s lobby was CLOSED. Hotels are 24/7, why would their lobby be closed? Instead, they had a “night window” as I mentioned earlier. It’s not a big deal, but small towns in Florida are quite dangerous, so having to stand outside of a hotel at 1 AM with no one other than a single hotel employee to watch out for you is an inconvenience.
This lone hotel employee was EXTREMELY rude. I was just hired to work at a Hampton Inn back in my hometown, and I’m supposed to start next week. Dealing with a rude employee has definitely shown me how important courtesy is with this job.
I understand this isn’t completely the hotel’s fault, but all of the vending machines were either in need of repair, or just weren’t taking any of our money. If something in your building needs tending to, why wouldn’t you take care of it?
Overall, this experience has just been absolutely terrible. I have lived my whole life moving around and traveling - therefore, I’ve stayed in hotels of all kinds. I can’t say I’ve ever been to one so unpleasant. Hopefully, this blog will save someone from making the mistake of choosing Best Western sometime in the future. And I also really hope that this is absolutely NOT an indication of how the rest of this trip is going to be.
My Best Western Plus Lex Cebu Experience
My New Year started off just right: I’m able to experience the soon to open international business hotel in Cebu, Best Western Plus Lex! Best Western is one of the most renowned hotels in the US, which finally expanded here in Cebu. I got invited by a former workmate and friend, Gennika Ynot, the hotel’s Sales and Banquet Coordinator, to a complimentary overnight stay in a Superior Room with breakfast for 2.
Best Western Plus Lex is erected at Escario Street cor. Juana Osmena Extension, just beside McDonald’s and Landbank. It’s a 10-30 min drive to major shopping malls, establishments, and ports. Though right now, you wont appreciate the building because it’s still under-construction. The anticipated grand opening will be on January 14, 2013.
Best Western Plus Lex is distinct from any other hotels around the city. It is proud to have its infinity pool on the roofdeck! Imagine, an infinity pool on the roof deck, cool chairs for cocktail parties and chill-outs, and a mini-gym! Not only is it overlooking the city but the roof deck and infinity pool experience feels like you’re in a Hollywood movie, really first class, because of the amazing view of the mountains and buildings of Cebu. Aside from being a Best Western brand, the hotel has affordable rates:
Published Rates:
Superior Room PHP 4,800 nett
Business Class PHP 5,100 nett
Deluxe Room PHP 5,300 nett
Plus Suite PHP 9,300 nett
Extra Person 1,500 nett
Gennika gave me a Superior Room. It’s a room for 2. It’s an amazing room with modern facilities; like an automatic motion detector in the Comfort Room so it automatically turns the light on/off. It has a LCD screen TV, an iPhone/iPod dock which serves as an alarm clock as well, a password enabled electronic vault, and a mini fridge that has cans of sodas, juices and beers, and 2 bars of Chocolate inside for an affordable retail price.
Gaaaaaaah. I so wanted to stay overnight, but I had to checkout early. Duty calls. Tsssssk. But the 5-hour stay inside the business hotel was freaking awesome. I will definitely come back for the infinity pool that I haven’t tried yet!
I would like to personally thank Gennika Carmel Ynot for the experience. Contact them at:
