I think the book would have to evoke the readers emotions in which they would feel a connection to the story. It could also be something that they relate to. Most often, people believe inspirational stories or something that would bring cause to their life. For example, a child cured by prayer or through belief in God could be seen as a religious experience. God brings people together through friendship and support and gives people a feeling of community. Any specific story that influences someone could help them with their belief in God and religion.
