About beached whales
As if it’s just some 
Funny image
Or turn of phrase
And then sometimes,
Quite often,
People will laugh.

She looks like a beached whale!

Ha ha ha!

Beached whales 
Are usually sick
Or lost
Or confused
Or just trying 
To help a stranded friend.

Almost always
They die, 
Slowly.

They die of dehydration
Or drowning
Or they just collapse,
Alone,
Where they don’t belong,
Under their own weight.
