headcanons on the starfire/blackfire relationship?

*grins* I love that you ask me about this, because I just re-read the rhato issues with Kor and Kom a couple days ago and got so emotional over it!

I think when Kori got sold by her sister, she didn’t understand what was going on at first, and felt lots of betrayal. She said they’d been really close to each other, and being traded like that must have hurt her deeply. Maybe she spent some time hating her sister, while she was a prisoner. Being in that situation would bring up lots of bitter resentment and anger, even in a warm person like Kori. She was also really young, and that affects people’s habilities to put themselves in the place of another.

I think when she grew up and managed to free herself, her anger had mostly died out and she felt just… Tired. That’s why she left with the ship instead of staying in her planet. She didn’t hate her sister, but she couldn’t bear to be there with the constant reminders of everything that happened between them. Kind of the same stage in which I think Jason is in right now. She missed being close to her sister, but she couldn’t bring herself to take the first step in that direction, because she still hurt inside. I think Komand’r felt relieved when her sister came back, so so relieved that her actions hadn’t caused her dear sister’s dead. Kom probably tortured herself for year with the guilt of what she had done, so when Kori came back, she didn’t think she was worth her love anymore and she let her go.

I think… Those years they spent apart from each other after that, they helped them reconsider how important the bond they shared was. So when they had the chance to meet again, both jumped head first on it, even if they still thought the other didn’t feel the same. Kori’s a caring person deep inside, being cut away from her sister must have felt like missing a part of herself, so when she managed to free her, all she had for Kom was forgiveness. All the betrayal was nothing in comparisson to having her bond with her sister back. And I think Komand’r just felt really moved by that, because even if she still regreted what she did, Kori lifted lots of guilt from her shoulders. I don’t think Kom thinks she’s worth her little sister’s forgiveness, but she values her too much to dismiss it.
